Davison’s Brief Tenure

Davison assumed the interim CEO role on November 22, replacing Chris Jankowski. Jankowski had stepped down due to what he described as an “untenable” situation within the super PAC.

However, the circumstances surrounding Davison’s departure remain unclear, adding to the intrigue surrounding the group’s recent reshuffling.

Resignation of Adam Laxalt and Organizational Shifts

The super PAC has also seen the resignation of its former chairman, Adam Laxalt, who expressed a desire to return to his law practice and family after an intense period of continuous campaigning.

Following these high-profile exits, Scott Wagner has been announced as the new interim CEO and board chairman, as reported by The Hill.

Never Back Down’s Continued Commitment

Despite these shake-ups, the organization has reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Governor DeSantis’s presidential campaign.

A spokesperson for the group stated, “We have the most organized, advanced caucus operation of anyone in the 2024 primary field.” This assertion reflects the group’s confidence in navigating these internal changes while maintaining its political objectives.

Additional Departures and Organizational Challenges

Further adding to the PAC’s challenges, the Associated Press reported that communications director Erin Perrine and director of operations Matt Palmisano are also leaving.

These departures, occurring in the backdrop of intense internal disagreements as reported by NBC News and The New York Times, suggest a period of significant turmoil within the organization.

DeSantis’s Campaign and the Republican Primary Landscape

Governor DeSantis, who announced his candidacy in May, relies heavily on Never Back Down for organizing and advertising efforts.

The leadership upheaval comes at a crucial time as DeSantis faces narrowing former President Donald Trump’s significant lead in both Iowa and national polls.

Moreover, the emergence of other Republican candidates, including former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, adds to the competitive nature of the primary.

Reports of Internal Discord

Sources have indicated that the internal discord within Never Back Down has been severe, with reports of a near-physical altercation during a leadership meeting.

This strife has seemingly influenced the formation of a new super PAC, Fight Right, which has already received substantial financial backing.

DeSantis’s Position in the Race

Governor DeSantis trails behind former President Trump in national polls, with Nikki Haley and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy also in the race.

Haley’s recent successes in state-level polls and mock caucuses indicate a dynamic and unpredictable Republican primary.
