In a recent interview on “PBS Newshour,” former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton delved into her perspective on the current political landscape, discussing everything from President Biden’s performance to her views on the 2024 Republican presidential primary. Notably, she warned of what she perceives as a “cult” following of former President Donald Trump.

Clinton urged rural voters to support President Biden, emphasizing his achievements in job creation and addressing the needs of underserved areas. However, she expressed concern over Trump’s strong lead in polls for the 2024 Republican nomination, describing it as a “very sad commentary” on the emotional, psychological, and cultural connection people have with the former president.

She attributed this connection to Trump’s adept use of social media and certain media outlets to shape public opinion, making it challenging to break that connection. Clinton even likened it to being part of a “cult,” making it clear she believes defeating Trump and re-electing Biden is essential.

The interview touched upon Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, where she famously referred to some of Trump’s supporters as a “basket of deplorables.” She acknowledged that the comment was overly general and later apologized for it.

When asked about her reaction to the 2016 election, Clinton humorously described it as “pretty traumatic” but assured that she is personally doing well. She noted that she often gets asked about her well-being by supporters and campaign workers.

Throughout the interview, Clinton cited various factors for her 2016 loss, including Russian interference and sexism. She also mentioned the reluctance of married White women to vote against their husbands as contributing to her defeat.

In conclusion, Hillary Clinton not only shared her perspective on the political landscape but also reflected on her own experiences, making it clear that she believes in the importance of supporting the current administration in the face of what she sees as a strong challenge from Trump in the upcoming election.
